La Célestière vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Benefiting from the prestigious Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, the estate – whose new owners commissioned us - comprises 26 hectares of which 14 are vineyards.

These vineyards, a several-century-old heritage, were for a long time cultivated and looked after, then, oddly enough, abandoned.

The objective was to eventually make 1500hl (just over 900 barrels) of wine on site. The specificity of the Châteauneuf du Pape wine is that it needs to mature at least one year before being marketed. It was therefore necessary to add extensions to the existing buildings of the wine cellar.

The existing constructions comprised the vinification area, a building used for storage and an inhabited farmhouse, organised around an inner courtyard.

The project completely reshaped the vinification area, with a half-buried building exclusively used for ageing, as well as a platform to receive the grape harvest.

A tasting room and wine shop visible from the entrance of the estate sculpt the main façade, with a large opening that reflects the shadows cast by the leaves of the hundred-year-old plane trees. La Celestière is today a renaissance of this estate lying in the midst of the Châteauneuf du Pape vineyards.
